Description
Restocked. Brl is signed H. Albright. 56” O.A., 41” wrought iron octagonal brl, .45 cal. Percussion lock by Truitt Bros. Philadelphia (1860). Maple fullstock with mild stripe. No carving. Brass, 4-piece patchbox with daisy finial, faceted trigger guard, plain brass sideplate, and small brass nameplate at the tang. Small silver star on the cheekside. Henry Albright was one of the famous Lancaster/Lititz-born gunsmiths who later moved to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, eventually dying in Nazareth, Pennsylvania in 1845. This rifle is made up of parts from an earlier Henry Albright rifle and is essentially a re-stock. The brl appears to have a genuine Henry signature – the patchbox and trigger guard appear to be genuine Albright-made, but the stock, sideplate, buttplate, and silver star are not. The lock is later than Albright’s work period. The stock itself is a later add-on, more appropriate to the percussion period than Albright’s usual refined and heavier stock.
Condition
This rifle is “in the black”, and in need of serious TLC, yet a handy craftsman could bring it back to some repute as all the parts are intact waiting for such a restoration. ANTIQUE.
