Description
22” OA, the haft is 20”, head from the bowl to the blade is 8.25”. Authentic, c1790 hand-forged iron head with bowl, on a striped maple shaft recreated by master craftsman, Carl Pippert. Engraved German silver mouthpiece with silver inlays, a silver band, and wire inlaid into the tiger maple haft. The early turned-down blade and molding with bowl are typical of late 18th-century presentation pipe tomahawks of the Eastern American tribes. Pipe tomahawks of this kind were presented in ceremonies where they could also be smoked, while often carried by riflemen as additional weapons. The haft created by Pippert to accurate specifications is hollow from the mouthpiece to the end of the head where a threaded clean-out plug is inserted.
